"Dear Ragini" being presented on Sun, 16th Jan

Hi all,

Greetings of Makar Sankranti, Lohri, and the good tidings of the harvest festival! May the good Sun Lord bless us with cheaper vegetables and pulses! 

Jan 12th is Swami Vivekanand’s birthday, and this day is celebrated as National Youth Day in our Country. As part of the National Youth Week celebrations, we bring you a youth group from Kolkata.

On January 3rd, 2010 “LOK” was formed by Soumyajit Majumdar, Mass Communication and Videography student of St.Xaviers, Kolkata with his artistically and creatively inclined friends mostly from St.Xaviers College, Jadavpur University, Presidency College, Loreto College and some other premiere schools and colleges of Kolkata. It involves young minds engaged in photography, filmmaking, music, theatre, dance, creative writing, fine arts etc.

What seemed like a youth creative arts movement in Kolkata is now taking shape of a national youth creative arts movement with LOK spreading its wings to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and other cities within a year of its inception.

PROJECT YUVA

LOK has conceptualized "PROJECT YUVA-dream young" - a one-of-its-kind national youth movement mainly in terms of creative arts. The aim is to connect the Indian youth on a common platform and facilitate interaction and exchange among them.

The curtain raiser for "PROJECT YUVA-dream young" was held at Gyan Manch, Kolkata on January 3rd, 2011, with a national youth carnival.

After the successful launch of “PROJECT YUVA-DREAM young”, LOK is set to begin the “PROJECT YUVA” journey to other cities and also celebrate the National Youth Week in India (Jan 12-Jan 19) with a reading session of the musical play “Dear Ragini” (involving dialogues, live songs-vocals, accoustic guitars, dhol/tabla, violin) and also an informal discussion session on “Youth For Change” - the need for a national youth movement and also on the prospect of creative arts in India among the youth

LOK and PROJECT YUVA will be inaugurated in

Ahmedabad (NID auditorium) 15th January 5.30 pm,
Pune (twistntales, Aundh)- 16th January 5pm,Bangalore (Oxford bookstore, 19th January) 7pm

About “Dear Ragini”
It is a heart-warming rendition of a love letter from social activist Shekhar to his lover Ragini on one side (about his hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats in the villages where he is continually terrorized by the "system") and on the other side the tale of a poor artisan in a kingdom of misrule -these two parallel stories dealing with the condition of creative people/activists in India. The play is interspersed with live original songs (both western and Indian folk numbers - guitars, violin, dholak and other percussion have been used) which form the heart of the play and adds to the entertainment quotient of the play.

The long forgotten ancient Indian style of story-telling "Katha" has been effectively used in this musical. In an age when there are so many flashy story-telling methods available, “Dear Ragini” confirms that simple narration remains effective.
You are cordially invited to our event and we request you to spread the word to all young photographers, musicians, filmmakers, theatricals, artists, designers, activists, students of arts, media and those who support an organized national youth forum and movement in the country.

Venue: twistntales
Date: 16th Jan, Sunday, 5pm sharp
Duration: 1 hour

Looking forward to seeing you on Sun,

From the team at

Book Launch, "Flute in the Forest"

Leela Gour Broome was excited, so were we with her first book ! Deepak Dalal, our chief guest almost didn't make it - had a flat tyre, driving in from khadakwasla ... but the numerous fans of Nature Trails (we are one too !) and the kids who are grown up, and the kids who are now 12 years - all of us had a real rocking time !

The book too is beautiful. If you love the forests and haven't read this one, pick it up ! We were so glad to be launching the book !
